Balanced Trade in Services (BaTIS) Dataset

The OECD–WTO Balanced Trade in Services (BaTIS) dataset provides the first fully reconciled picture of who trades what services with whom. By combining every official balance‑of‑payments release with model‑based estimates and a balancing algorithm that eliminates asymmetries, BaTIS delivers a single, coherent matrix of bilateral services flows for all economies and major service categories from 2005 to 2023.

Key Data Components:
Bilateral exports and imports for over 200 economies and “Rest‑of‑World”. Each observation records the value of services that economy A sells to or buys from economy B, ensuring full two‑way symmetry after reconciliation.

26 EBOPS‑2010 service categories plus total services. Headline items such as transport, travel, financial and ICT services are complemented by granular sub‑items.

Annual coverage 2005‑2023 . Each new national balance‑of‑payments release feeds into the next BaTIS vintage.

Ready‑made indicators. Growth rates, world‑market shares and digitally deliverable‑services tags are pre‑calculated, spotlighting structural changes such as the surge in remote IT and professional services.

Balance adjustments: Adjustments applied to align bilateral reports (ensuring exports = imports).
