Investment Related Datasets

This collection comprises three interrelated datasets providing detailed insights into global investment facilitation, foreign direct investment (FDI), and foreign affiliate sales, covering a broad range of countries/territories and sectors:

Investment Facilitation Index Database: This dataset, developed by International Trade Centre (ITC) and the German Institute of Development and Sustainability (IDOS), measures the adoption of investment facilitation measures at the country level across 142 WTO Members. It includes 101 measures grouped into six regulatory dimensions, reflecting key policy areas and the latest developments, including the Investment Facilitation for Development Agreement. The index supports analysis of investment barriers, implementation gaps, and can inform prioritization of technical assistance.

FDI Research Dataset: A three-dimensional database (bilateral by sector) compatible with the GTAP Version 11 (2017) covering 158 regions and 65 sectors. It integrates reported FDI data from multiple sources (IMF, OECD, Eurostat, UNCTAD, ITC), reconciled through gravity modeling and quadratic optimization, with adjustments to correct for phantom FDI associated with tax havens. Available files include both corrected and uncorrected versions of FDI data.

Affiliate Sales Research Dataset: This three-dimensional dataset captures foreign affiliate sales by host country, home country, and sector, aligned with GTAP Version 11 (2017). Constructed through extensive data collection, reconciliation, gravity estimation, and integration with GTAP economic output, it enables detailed analysis of multinational enterprise sales for computable general equilibrium modeling. Data is available in HAR and CSV formats.
