Special Agricultural Safeguards (SSG) Actions

The Special safeguards dataset provides information on special safeguard (SSG) actions— either volume-based or price-based —taken by Members. Only Members with SSG rights listed in their schedules of concessions can invoke these measures.

Volume-Based SSG: Before invoking a volume-based SSG (as far as practicable), and in any case within 10 days of implementation, Members notify the following:
- Description of the product and their tariff line codes.
- The trigger level.
- The period of application of the safeguard, and
- The calculations justifying the application of the measure.

Price-Based SSG: For price-based SSGs, Members must submit an up-front notification before invoking the safeguard on a product for the first time. If no such up-front notification has been made for the concerned product(s), an ad hoc notification should be provided (as far as practicable) before taking the action, and in any event, within 10 days of its implementation.

The notification includes:
- Description of the product and their tariff line codes.
- The type (upfront or ad hoc).
- The trigger price for the product(s).
- The date of application of the measure.

For volumne-based SSGs, the dataset inlcludes information on the trigger volume and the relevant import and domestic consumption volumes used to calculate the trigger.
For price-based SSGs, information on trigger price and the date of application is included.
There is also information on annual invocation of SSG actions.
