Structural Gravity database

This Structural Gravity dataset provides consistent data on bilateral and domestic trade in manufactured goods, covering a large set of trading partners over time. It is specifically designed for estimation of structural gravity models of international trade, allowing for robust econometric and general-equilibrium analysis.

Key Data Components:
- Bilateral trade flows (between origin and destination countries), and domestic (within-country) trade in manufactured goods.
- Origin and destination country identifiers (e.g., ISO codes).
- Year of observation: data covers a multi-year period (1980–2016) for 186 trading partners.
- Variables needed for structural gravity estimation: trade flows, potentially GDP/production data, expenditures, and other country-pair covariates (as per the dataset construction) to reflect relative economic size, trade costs, and domestic vs international trade structure.

The dataset is intended for research and policy analysis using the structural gravity framework. It supports:
- Partial equilibrium estimations of policy changes (e.g. tariff changes, trade agreements) on trade flows.
- General equilibrium analyses, accounting for both direct and indirect effects of trade policy across countries and sectors.

The database is available for download in Stata format. Documentation describing the dataset construction, variable definitions, and methodology is provided alongside the data.
