WTO Trade Barometers

The WTO Goods and Services Trade Barometers are composite leading indicators designed to provide real-time insights into the trajectory of world trade relative to recent trends. These barometers combine various trade-related component indices into single composite indices that highlight turning points in global trade activity.

Goods Trade Barometer: This index combines several component indices of trade-related data into a single composite index that anticipates turning points in world merchandise trade. It includes components such as export orders, container shipping, air freight, electronic components trade, and raw materials trade. The Goods Trade Barometer is updated regularly to reflect the most current data.

Services Trade Barometer: This index is calculated as a weighted average of six component indices representing various aspects of world services trade. Compared to its counterpart for goods, the Services Trade Barometer is updated less frequently, providing insights into trends in services trade.
