Information on Trade in Intermediate Goods

The Information Note on Trade in Intermediate Goods series provides detailed analyses of global trade in intermediate goods (IGs). Trade in IGs serves as a crucial indicator of supply chain activity, which has been significantly impacted by global events such as the COVID-19 pandemic. This series offers quarterly insights into the trends, dynamics, and composition of IG trade worldwide.

Key Data Components:
Global and Regional Trade Performance: The series tracks world exports of intermediate goods, including year-on-year (YoY) changes, highlighting overall trends (e.g., global decreases in 2023 or increases in early 2021) and regional variations.

Trade by Product Category: Data is disaggregated by categories of intermediate goods, such as food and beverages, other industrial supplies, ores (including precious stones and rare earths), and parts and accessories (both transport and non-transport equipment).

Leading Exporters and Importers: The series identifies the top exporting and importing economies for intermediate goods, along with their respective trade values and YoY percentage changes.

Inter- and Intra-Regional Trade Flows: Detailed tables and analysis on trade flows between and within different regions (Africa, Asia, Europe, North America, South & Central America) provide insights into regional supply chain dynamics.

Methodological Notes: The series also includes methodological details, such as changes in the definition of IGs (e.g., switch from Harmonized System (HS) 2007 to HS 2022 trade classification), which may affect value levels and share of IGs in total merchandise trade.
